More than 200 years ago, oil mills such as this one were used to process rapeseed, poppy seeds, flax, hemp, sunflowers, nuts and beechnuts into oil. In addition to high-quality cooking oil, the inferior fuel oil was produced in a second pressing process. The press residues, the so-called "press cake", were used as cattle feed.
